Screenshots for Support

A Picture says a Thousand Words!

If you want to accompany your Support Request with an image to help speed things along, here’s how to effectively capture, and then send exactly what you want your Support Technician to see.

To take a picture of a particular window or error message:

  1. Click the window you wish to screenshot
  2. Hold ALT and press PRINT SCREEN
  3. Load up Microsoft Paint (Start –> Programs –> Accessories –> Paint)
  4. Paste the image from the clipboard into Paint – CTRL+V
  5. Mouse over to File – Save As
  6. Change “Save as Type” to GIF
  7. Click Save & then OK to finish

If you don’t want to save it as a file for later, skip steps 5 to 7 and paste the image directly into an email (eg. Outlook).

On the other hand If you need to show us your entire desktop:

  1. Arrange your windows on your desktop to be sure they’re placed for best effect (and privacy)
  2. Tap the Print Screen key on your keyboard
  3. Load up Microsoft Paint (Start –> Programs –> Accessories –> Paint)
  4. Paste the image from the clipboard into Paint – CTRL+V
  5. Mouse over to File – Save As
  6. Change “Save as Type” to GIF
  7. Click Save & then OK to finish

If using a Mac press ‘Command + Shift + 4′ to take a screenshot of a particular section of your desktop.

NB Because of its’ dimensions, it’s best to email this image as an attachment rather than paste them directly into an email.
